There are some pictures on my camera waiting to be uploaded. Oops. I'll get to that at some point.
This past week was filled with 5am wake-ups while Matt was in Indianapolis for work. I started my first week at Arvada West High School, and it was unbelievable. I've learned a lot so far and have so far yet to go! First lessons: high schoolers are pretty much the same as they were 15 years ago. Shocking, I know! I guess the biggest difference is that boys (most of them) have long hair (Justin Bieber-style), and girls have multi-colored streaks in theirs. Clothes are tighter, there's a few more piercings, things like iPods and Smart Phones are banned from everywhere except the Commons... but otherwise, it's the same high school that I remember.
I have loved every minute so far at AWest. I have been utterly rejuvenated in my "work" side of life. 5am wake-ups haven't even been all that bad! Seeing the kids each day and feeling like I may play some small (likely insignificant) role in their semester has filled me with joy and purpose throughout the day. Now, not spending any time at home (I had an unusual amount of other commitments last week, all of which were of course worth it - I can't ever turn down some catch up time over wine!), definitely took its toll on me. And once my grad classes start up again in a few weeks, life will be quite chaotic I'm sure (i.e. likely fewer wine/catch-up sessions). But for now, I'm relishing in the excitement of being back in high school! :)
Better stories (and possibly pictures) to come later...
