We ushered in 2014 with a BANG. Ok, not so much a bang, but we did stay awake until midnight and enjoyed many-a-laugh with the Van Wylens (and a tasty dinner). In fact, it was probably the hardest I've laughed in a long time. And I have photographic proof that it might have been the hardest that John has laughed, maybe ever. ;) Regardless, it was a fun night watching Benjamin and Emme flirt/play, enjoying a child-free dinner (sorry I over-cooked the turkey - that's what I get for not paying attention!), and playing the most hilarious game ever invented. (We could barely tear ourselves away to say "happy new year!" with Ryan Seacrest after all)
what was supposed to be a delicious orange/rosemary turkey... |
new year's kisses! |
already playing house! |
An old friend from DC was in town and stopped by with the friends she introduced us to in Denver... it was nice of them to come by for a drink before going out to hit the town.
we included a "random" player and we randomly got this nice combo... MAGIC. |
And on New Year's Day we enjoyed a brunch with some neighborhood friends and their kiddos. It's been fun getting to know more people around us, turns out they're pretty great!
We also made a trip to the Children's Museum (along with the rest of the city, apparently!) to enjoy Benjamin's Christmas present from Grama and Grampa. It's a great place (even more fun when it's not quite so packed), and Benjamin had a blast.
And to cap off a super fun day, we even took a trip to the rec center to enjoy their indoor pool. Benjamin was IN LOVE with the water. A great family outing, for sure.
And lastly, I was a mean wife and forced Matt to spend most of his vacation time working on the house. :-/ BUT, things have turned out great so far! Here are a few of the projects:
Painting an accent wall behind our dining table/bench (we literally mixed three colors from random paint we had in the basement... turned out pretty well!):
Putting in a random cabinet next to our fridge (turns out the cabinets we thought were from Ikea, were not from Ikea, so it took me two trips there to figure that out and then decide on something to "compliment" ours, instead of match). My dad helped us figure out how to do a wooden top since we didn't want to drop much money on this little project... and though I've sanded/sealed that top, and we did finally attach it, I still have to caulk the sides and paint/attach the bottom boards!
excuse the very messy kitchen |
Benjamin was actually a very good helper! |
And lastly, the worst project of all, we painted the basement. It was a not-fun project, that's for sure. Lots of wall space and a terribly high hallway down to the basement. Matt was a trooper (and didn't divorce me), and now our walls are no longer bright green (except for in occasional areas where the ceiling still reflects... we were too lazy to paint the ceilings!). I did also paint a few chalkboard walls, which turned out great and Benjamin loves!
And that's it for now! Except a cute picture of Benjamin when he was a little under the weather from too much Christmas fun and he spent most of the day in our bed (including one whole nap!). So sweet, even when he's sickie!
