There was one time, two months ago, when I had the good fortune of going on a girls' weekend to Vegas. (Mind you, Matt actually went on a boys' weekend at the same time, in Maryland, but he didn't take a ton of pics so it's on him to blog it.) Mimi, of course, gave us the amazing gift of coming to watch the kids while we took flight.
Vegas wasn't our first option - we wanted to get away for Keri's birthday, and to simply get away and rest in the sun. Our list included sun, sun, pool, sun, pool. And that was about it. But it turns out that traveling in spring is super hit or miss. We looked at a bunch of places and couldn't find a reasonably priced location that could guarantee us our time in the sun! So, Vegas, being in the desert, seemed to fit the bill the best.
Did I mention that we were leaving on April 29th, and it started SNOWING in Denver. And the one time I decided to book a cheap flight with Spirit Airlines, my flight gets canceled with no option to rebook that day into Vegas! (insert Spirit Airlines rant here) I ponied up some Benjamins to jump on a United flight and just so happened to catch the same flight Keri was on after her layover from Michigan! My sad/devastated morning was getting better!
Does this look like your flight should get canceled? Come on! |
And aside from an entire day of rain (seriously, one of about 20 they get ALL year long!), we had an amazing time! It was good to connect with these moms/friends in a deep and rejuvenating way. My soul was so happy, and my skin turned a nice bronze with all the poolside chatting and relaxing we did. We didn't go out much (mostly for photo ops to make it look like we were being super awesome), we cooked in our hotel room, we hardly strayed from the hotel property (except for our awesome trip to a dance club that included us swindling our way in, not dancing, and leaving within ten minutes - only to find out one of the most popular DJs in the country was playing later that night... ha!). And it was amazing!! I highly recommend taking a break like this from time to time. As much as our bank account (and Mimi) will allow for it, I will try to keep these things up to preserve some semblance of sanity :)
Here's a look at our trip!
We made it!!! And we also brought our own booze! |
it is not snowing here... |
mamas are out in Vegas! |
Sadly, about two minutes after I landed in Vegas, I got a call from Avery's doc that she cultured psuedomonas :( Since we didn't want to burden Mimi with starting her increased treatments and meds, they waited to start til Matt got home. Poor girl was such a trooper for a whole month on Tobi.
So sad to say goodbye to this!!! |
