Before we learned that Matt and I are both CF gene carriers, I have to admit I knew nothing about the disease. But once we learned that our child had a 25% chance of getting it, we immediately decided we had to a) learn about it (duh), and b) try to be a part of getting rid of it. I've spoken about CF before, and about just how awful it can be for some folks, but thankfully advancements are being made every single day and lives are being prolonged. There's a good chance Benjamin is a carrier of the gene now, so we're not only doing this for the thousands of people living with CF, the many more who will be born with the disease, and our own potential future child, we also want to make a difference for our grand children and their grand children. Hopefully someday soon there will be folks living with CF well into their 90s, or without it at all. I'm excited for that day!
In the meantime, we had a wonderful time with the people that came to support the cause on Saturday morning. The Larson crew raised almost $800! (And if you would still like to donate, please do here: http://www.cff.org/great_strides/alilarson) It was awesome seeing the 1000+ people at the event who have been touched by CF and working to make a difference.
Here are some pics from the morning!
The kiddos were cashed (except Benjamin who apparently didn't care about missing a nap):
That afternoon while waiting for our air duct cleaning guy, we played a little in the backyard. Benjamin enjoyed the cheap-o sprinkler we had from our old house, though he didn't quite understand that he could actually run through it himself. :-) So thankful for nice weather!
Here was Benjamin with Matt watching the air duct guy at work... they have become two peas in a pod!!
And no, we did not win Powerball. My hopes for becoming a philanthropist have been dashed for now. Back to the grind...
