First Haircut!

In my head, I have about five blog posts to write that I've been meaning to get to for the past few weeks.  Summer has been off to a great start, which means we've also been keeping our schedules filled with fun outings and family time.  Summer is just... awesome.  More on that in the upcoming posts.  Hopefully I'll get to those soon :)

But for now I needed to document the first haircut (which was clearly long overdue!) that we gave Mr. Benjamin Willys back on June 1st.  If you've seen him lately, his hair has gotten quite Albert Einstein-esque.  I'm talking near fro in the back.  His sweet curls looked so adorable in the bathtub, but no amount of hair cream could keep them looking quite as nice.  Things started taking a turn for the "rats nest" phase a few months back and I was just too nervous to trim it.  (No clue why, because now that it's cut, it's SO much better!)

A little before and after action:

(to give you an idea of his mullet at bathtime, here was a pic from a few weeks ago...)

We plopped Benjamin down outside, brought out some less than stellar scissors and a comb, and I got to work while Matt tried to keep him entertained.  It was a hot day, so we at first just dumped water on his head to get it all wet... but I don't think we'll do that again!  The tears were more from that than from having to sit still and have scissors to his head.  Once the tears passed, he actually thought it was cool to see his little tendrils fall to the ground... and he even tried picking them up at the end and putting them back in his hair.  Such a silly and smart boy!  :P

Before:

about to say goodbye to some of these curls...

After:
so much better!

We're happy with the cleaned up look that gives us a little bit of the sweet curls for a little longer throughout the day (naps, hats, and bike rides in the helmet certainly help us get a little closer to a rat's nest).  Wish I could post a nice picture of him smiling with the new 'do, but he's more apt to run around than stand still for more than 3 seconds so I can get a non-blurry picture of him.  So these will have to do for now!
