Palm Desert 2015! (2 months late...)

Palm Desert!!! Our favorite new tradition!! (And yes, it was almost two months ago now...)

Matt's Aunt and Uncle have a townhome in Palm Desert, so for the second year, we've taken a good old fashioned family road trip there. It is SO worth the long drive. Plus, Utah and Nevada are actually VERY beautiful to drive through... and Vegas is an easy stop to get Benjamin a little exercise (and now that he's big enough, some fun at Circus Circus on the rides!). We decided to drive through the night both ways, and it actually worked out incredibly well (knock on wood). Both kids slept great (Avery even slept better than she had been!), and seeing how happy Benjamin was to go to the pool every single day was well worth the drive. More than worth it!

Heading out around 9pm...

Pitstop for breakfast before we got to Vegas.  Benjamin met some buddies in the form of ducks.

Spent lots of time listening to music or watching videos. Yep, great parenting!

And even better parenting... taking your kiddos to Vegas! We were nervous to bring Avery through the casino to get the Adventure Park (SO. MUCH. SMOKE.), but thankfully it was early enough in the morning and generally more family-friendly than others, so we made it okay.  Totally worth it. Benjamin LOVED going on the rides.

Some ride videos:
Very first rollercoaster ride!

Slow Motion...

Entering the desert.

We had to PEEL the clothes off Avery in her carseat, she was so hot!

But it was all worth it as soon as we arrived and were able to jump right into the pool!!

Avery took a nice snooze.

I got to read. Wait, what's that again? Reading? I'm not sure I'm familiar with the practice... (PS - this book is hilarious if you like Tina Fey.)

Practicing some kicking skills from swim lessons:

Avery was happy to play tea party picnic inside the townhome. :)

Oh, and it was our SIXTH wedding anniversary... so we got to leave the kiddos at home and eat an awesome meal out in Palm Springs!

Just noting that it was still in the 90s even at 8pm :)

Check out my early Mother's Day gift from Mimi! My new favorite earrings :)

There's this new trend in Palm Springs where they take these old run-down/outdated motels and convert them to hip/trendy hotels and bars/restaurants. It's pretty cool! This one had a cool bar out by the pool. It was funny to see what was once a hideous 70s style motel as a super hip hangout for the "young folks". :)

Did I mention that we went to the pool EVERY. DAY.

Benjamin NEVER wanted to get out. Sometimes he fell asleep on Mimi IN the pool.

Some pool videos:

Clearly this kid hates the water:

Matt and I took a wild trip to.... Trader Joes. :)

Avery liked to hang out in the stroller...

Benjamin just LOVES his Aunt and Uncle. We're SO lucky to have them.

Playing games by the firepit.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that Avery has SEVERE separation anxiety... and it took her almost two days to really warm up to Mimi. She didn't warm up to anyone else, really. Though she did have a strong affinity for Uncle Steve :)

Steve and Matt hit some balls...

More Break the Ice...

Avery did this when anyone held her. It was quite sad :(

Matt & I went for a drink during happy hour one day. Talk about a nice treat! Mojitos and Pina Coladas. Yum....

Visiting with one of Suzie's friends...

Our amazing hosts:

And you better believe there was Triv Pur (original edition style):

Avery's best nap of the whole trip took place in the stroller after a dip in the pool. 2.5 hours later....

Then more folks started snoozing...

We went out for a nice dinner as a family our last night!

These kind of nights are just the BEST.

We kept hearing a very loud burping sound... turns out it was a toad!

The last morning, Matt and I headed back into Palm Springs to check out a popular brunch place (Cheeky's). We saw KD Lang there. That was the highlight of the excursion. (Note: we are spoiled in Denver with endless numbers of ridiculously good brunch places...) ;)

Enjoying as much time in the pool as he could get!

Getting ready to head out...

We stopped at In-N-Out for dinner, of course :)

And that's that! We drove through the night and made it to Grand Junction's Burger King for a super healthy breakfast (or something like that). Avery was still smiling from all the fun she had, so we called the trip a huge success.  Can we go back?? Like now???  Thank you so much Suzie and Steve for having us!!  And thank you Mimi & Papa for all you do for us and allowing us a little adult time :)  What a perfect week!
