Well, I wish the murder was of a car, but the title of this post is actually referring to our weekend events. Aside from catching up on sleep and schoolwork, the weekend was made up of a fun murder mystery party with friends, and a lot of talk about used cars (not as fun).
First off, the murder mystery party. Rachel and John hosted our first mystery party, and it was a great time! We didn't know quite how it worked at all the turns, but it was a fun way to get "dressed up" over the Halloween weekend without getting too dressed up. Everyone looked great, and low and behold, Keri and Joe ended up being the murderer and victim - pretty crazy for having been randomly assigned characters! And the pictures turned out pretty fun as well:
As for the car part of the weekend... we received the bad news from a local mechanic that our poor Hyundai needs a lot (read: $$$$) of work put into her, so we were presented with a dilemma. The car itself (her name is Dixie), is not worth much money at all... like not even half of what the repairs cost... so do we put the money in and hope she keeps running, or do we put that money towards a cheap, used car that could potentially last us longer? After visiting many many dealerships (and one pretty sketchy used car lot perhaps run by some type of mafia), we still don't know what the right answer is. Apparently there is a shortage of "cheap" used vehicles out there for sale, so the decent cars we could find were still pretty pricey. Our only options seemed to be a 2001 Altima with a solid record, or a 2004 Civic with two accidents on its record... and actually, the Civic isn't "technically" in our price range yet, we're just hoping we could talk them down a bit. Oy... And if you're wondering, we did not win the Powerball jackpot (yet), so we'll still have to ponder this for a bit or until the Hyundai completely poops out on us (which could be any day!). I suppose cars don't like to take into consideration their timing. Not the best for us, at any rate.
And, that was our weekend... nothing too crazy, a couple early nights in bed, a scary movie (Paranormal Activity), relaxing, organizing a boatload of baby clothes we have inherited from extremely generous friends (ahem, I'm looking at you Mackenzie - our little guy will be stylin'! And I think he'll be set for quite some time...), handing out Halloween candy to adorable neighborhood kiddos, and me planning lessons and preparing some lectures. The weekend always goes by TOO fast! Thankfully, we have some excitement this week to look forward to - we get to see the little guy for the last time before he arrives!! We have an ultrasound scheduled for Friday (and our 30 week checkup is the day before - 30 weeks?!?). Can't wait to see you little guy!
Can't wait to hear how the last pre-meeting viewing goes!! And glad y'all enjoyed the murder mystery party... I ended up being the murderer at ours (one of the hosts?!?!), which I did not like, but I'm determined to try again. Good luck with the car situation! <3
